What kinds of resins are commonly used in FRP pultruded grids?

FRP pultruded grids are plate-like materials with numerous spaces, manufactured using glass fiber as a reinforcing material and unsaturated polyester resin as a matrix. These grids undergo special processing to ensure their quality. The production of polyester resin plays a critical role in the manufacturing of FRP pultruded grids. The choice of resin type depends on the intended use of the grids. Typically, there are five types of resins used: phenolic, o-benzene, m-benzene, m-benzene food grade, and vinyl. In the following sections, we will explore each of these five types of FRP pultruded grids in detail.

1.Phenolic form
The oxygen index of phenolic glass fiber reinforced plastic pultruded grid plate can reach about 80, and the standard color is coffee. Mainly used in low toxicity and high flame retardant, for occasions where fire safety is extremely important.

2, o-benzene type
The ortho-benzene glass fiber reinforced plastic pultruded grid plate has an oxygen index of 28 or more, and the standard colors are grass green, yellow, and gray. Can be used in general acid and alkali environment. The standard colors of FRP grating plates with oxygen index below 28 are green, yellow and gray. It has no flame retardant requirements.

3, m-benzene type

The oxygen index of iso-benzene glass fiber reinforced plastic pultruded grid plate is 28 or above, and the standard colors are grass green, yellow, and gray. Mainly used in VEFR-type economy, excellent acid resistance, moderate alkali resistance and solvents.

4, m-benzene food grade
The m-benzene food grade fiberglass pultruded grid plate has an oxygen index of 26 and the standard color is yellow. Mainly used in industries such as meat products and video processing plants.

5, vinyl type
Vinyl glass fiber reinforced plastic pultruded grid plate has an oxygen index of 28 or above, and the standard color is grass green, yellow, gray or orange. It is mainly used in harsh environments such as low acid and alkaline solvents. For FRP pultruded grille boards with an oxygen index of 35 or above, the standard color is dark gray or black. It is mainly used in occasions with high requirements for flame retardancy and excellent acid and alkali resistance.

FRP pultruded grids, regardless of the resin used, exhibit consistent corrosion resistance, aging resistance, and flame retardant properties. These characteristics remain unaffected by the choice of resin in the production of FRP pultruded grids.
